Predators

Our journey to the Redds for our salmon has ended . If lucky enough to find a suitable patch of clean gravel in which to spawn the next generation of salmon will have been produced.

However the chances of survival are very slim given that our river systems have been allowed to decline in many aspects . Phosphate levels that are through the roof have been largely ignored up until now , thank heaven for "Save the Wye " & other individual groups for brining this to the attention of the public.

On top of this predation of stock is out of control . Species that had no place on our rivers 30 years ago have moved in with very little if any control .

How many goosanders ,Cormorants or seals are to many in a river system ????

There was a time when course fish were managed for the benefit of salmon & trout ......All these issues largely ignored by our river "Managers " .

Little wonder closure of traditional salmon fisheries had little effect on salmon stocks .
