At present our fishery is closed due to N.R.W belief that our fishery taking an average of 5 salmon a season from THE SEVERN ESTUARY is a threat to salmon stock. While they still licence a fishery which fishing catch & release will kill more salmon in a week than we take in seasons......... This ruling on our fishery is not about salmon stock ,it is about an agenda of clearance of traditional fishermen from the estuary. Why this is being allowed by our government (after all t
With the lave net fishery closed due to the Natural Resources Wales proposed catch restrictions to our fishery we are spending the summer looking for new things to do . One will be spending a lot more days off the Severn estuary and exploring the river Wye on our Kayaks . There is a Kayak club in sudbrook and we will be teaming up and organizing some long and short trips ,perhaps overnight. We will also be looking at the other rivers in our area for new opportunitys to enjoy
A short stint at chepstow Tesco for our banner this saturday morning whilst we all did the weekly shop ! Huge thanks to all that have allowed us to put the banner up at their houses . A difficult time to run a petition but we are getting there !
It's heartbreaking . What should be a cause for celebration looks like it will not. A monument to what was . Well done NRW. At a time when Wales will need Tourism more than ever the proposed sculpture trail and a LIVING LAVE NET FISHERY on the wales coast path would have been fantastic (at very little cost to anyone ) now..........probally best put in a museum. A crying shame
So.......a Habitats Regulation Assessment has been used by N.R.W. to further restrict our catch which they say averages 5 salmon a year between us. We asked to see a H.R.A. on the river rod fisheries of the Usk & Wye (not that we have an issue with what they do ) These fisheries which actually fish for salmon on the rivers which are places of special scientific interest are by far the biggest killers of salmon (Even when fishing "Catch & release ) AMAZINGLY........Here is the
Our lave net fishery featured on ITV WALES news in the week concerning our fishermens low tide find of a Auroch horn . Hannah Thomas chatted to Rich & Martin about this historic find . Certainly brightened up the news program !
N.R.W. recent Habitats regulations assessment on our fishery has concluded we are a threat to salmon stock on the rivers Usk ,Wye and severn estuary. We will nor be issued licences unless we agree to throw our catch back . At present the fishery is closed. We have just received a copy of the HRA. Amazing ..............In it they state our average catch is 5 salmon for the group per year. (which is about right ) Then go on to base their conclusion on a number of 15 salmon...
1st June 2020 should be the 1st day of our season........Our centenary season. That will not be . We are devestated ....... Natural resources wales fisheries division will not issue us with a licence to fish unless we agree to throw out catch back into the estuary. That would seriously undermine the future of all we have built and the very future of the fishery ,a living fishery. They have concluded that the average 5 salmon we catch in the estuary "cannot be said not to have
