The Sculpture of a Black rock lave net fisherman is at last complete . An amazing piece of work by Sculptor Chris Wood . The piece is made from a 300 year old Welsh oak tree.......... Positioned on the wales coast path overlooking our severn estuary fishing grounds this will form part of a sculpture trail commissioned by the our living levels project to whom we are so very grateful to for including our ancient fishery. The sad situation is that as things stand due to the ongo
We are humbled that some members of our government have come together to try to help resolve our current issues with N.R.R regarding the further catch restrictions they are trying to make us accept .When cross party members of the Senedd offer their support in this manner surely even N.R.W. should take a little notice perhaps........... Then again in the past they have considered themselves above the assembly ignoring requests to resolve issues regarding our fishery. (2008 )
Before the bomb shell Natural Resources Wales enforced catch restriction which have caused the present closure of the last lave net fishery in Wales The our living levels group commissioned a new panel to replace our old one at black rock picnic site. A decision was made to renew the sign with the hope that NRW will next season look at the bigger picture and use more accurate figures to calculate our "impact " on salmon stock............ We have put a sign on the new board to
With the planned Kayak crossing of the Severn estuary from Black rock to New passage & back by the Sudbrook & Portskewett Kayak club One of our fishermen Martin offered to act as a safety boat for the trip . The crossing involved crossing "The Shoots" where there are whirl pools ,over falls and fast currents. All went well with no mishaps on the day. Paul our chairman led the group across under the watchful eye of Martin.
1st August 2020 yet another pollution incident on a tributary of the Wye. Afon liynfi ,Pontithel , Powys . Time and time again this is happening and thousands of fish killed again. Are all discharge points listed on our rivers ? are all discharge points sourced to the people / factory's discharging into them ? Is there a "Red list " of point requiring extra attention ? NRW & the EA are reactive at best , rarely pro active . Far easier to hammer the likes of us.
During the week John Griffiths MS & Jessica Morden MP visited our fishery to discuss the ongoing situation which has resulted in the present closure of our fishery. both John & Jessica have supported us over the past decades when The E. A & laterly NRW have attempted to undermine and close our fishery .
Our lave net fishery remains closed due to the catch restrictions demanded by Natural Resources Wales. We are trying to fight this unjust & bias decision by NRW. Our MS & MPs are being supportive in writing letters at the moment and reply's from NRW are what you would expect from a group that for decades ( E.A. before them ) has sought to undermine the future of our fishery. David Davies seen here on a visit to our fishery in 2019 when NRW refused to issue our licences until
