Onwards into the river system for our salmon . Providing it has escaped the seals in the Wye estuary and passed through the sewerage discharges he now finds himself at he first of the Salmon pools . Seals are now ranging well up into the river so if one is in the pool the salmons days are numbered............ For those who have no idea of the spawning fishes journey it will now make it's way up the river system to "The Redds " it's gravel bed spawning grounds, stopping off de
Sammy and the gang really got the bit between their teeth today...........Reports of "A very large salmon" caught on the Wye today . 22/6/2021 . Don't forget ...every fish matters ......and don't worry NRW say that " the seals on the Wye have no effect on stocks " so everything will be ok .
Here's a picture of Sammy and the gang yesterday "not having any affect on Wye fish stocks " ( NRW quote ) And we do ( according to NRW ) fishing out on the Severn estuary, lucky to take a handful in the season ?????? What the hell is going on here . About time someone in power started to question what is happening here and looking a little closer at NRW fisheries policy and agenda.
You can't really make this up..............Latest N.R.W. press release regarding Sammy the seal and his family ranging up into the river Wye.......... Said by N.R.W. to have no effect on fish stocks............ And our fishermen fishing on the Severn estuary are said by NRW to have a significant impact on stock to warrant further restriction ????? Wish someone would tell us what the hell is going on at NRW fisheries division .........and who ever is supposed to be overseeing
It is a well known fact that during a dry spell salmon hold up after entering the river Wye system in the vicinity of Chepstow castle. For Sammy the seal and friends this will be like shooting rats in a barrel to coin a phrase. The seal colony is on the increase now and as they are a protected species they are free to make their home on the river ,seen ranging up as far as Llandogo last week (they follow the flood ) Salmon for breakfast & Shad for tea . Pic .Son of Sammy with
If our salmon is lucky enough to pass Sammy and the gang at the mouth of the river Wye he now hits the first of the sewerage pollution discharged into the Wye estuary and washed down from river discharges. Often licenced by the E.A. / N.R.W . sometimes not......... Do they have any idea how many discharge points are along this river and where they come from ? Pic. One of many sewerage discharge points on the lower wye estuary
A returning Salmon now has little to fear on the Severn estuary . Not so when it turns into the river.......... In a series of posts we will run through what is happening as we speak on our rivers that feed the estuary. Here is the 1st obstacle. Lets start with the river Wye . For many years Seals seals have been sighted on the Severn estuary , not really a problem in the small numbers. However they now have made their home on the river Wye , ranging well up river. If a seal
With angling interests on the river Usk taking an interest in driving further nails into the coffin of the wreckage of traditional salmon fishing on the Severn estuary Here's a question ...............Which fishery is now the biggest KILLER of river usk SPAWNING SALMON STOCK ????? Well the answer is now very simple . The river Usk angling effort. A nice hot summer now and those "Returned fish " will be going belly up in droves . Perhaps the NRW / EA should seriously consider
A rock & hard place accepting the licence to fish under protest which we & others consider unjust ,prejudicial and totally wrong. Effort will now drop by 80% plus. Net house visitor center rarely ever open . A rare sight to see any of the group down at Black rock fishing. All built around the fishery destroyed by the actions of NRW fisheries division. The chances of catching a salmon are now very remote , and if we do so..... we cannot raise the net to the rock staff , shake
