2020 will be Black rock lave net heritage fishery's CENTENARY SEASON ! 100 years ago local men returned from service in the 1st world war to find that their fishing rights had been taken..........They formed an organised group for the first time to fight to regain these rights...... They were successful and every year since our lave net fishermen have fished carrying on a tradition that stretches back into the mists of time. The fishery has evolved to meet the changing times

This time of year on the Severn estuary the Sprats generally come in and the cod move off the sea bed.........It kills the rod fishing . This year (perhaps with the volume of fresh water ) the sprats are not there and the cod fishing has been good .
Even during the lave netting close season most of our fishermen spend time on the estuary . We keep a close eye on our patch . One little perk of this is finding links to the past . Clay pipes , bottles ,bones , parts of ship wrecks.......A facinating place !
