Our OPEN DAY

The Black rock lave net fishery open day was the highlight of our lave net fishing season ,a celebration of the season and all it represented, always the last Saturday of the season.

Built up from a family event to a community highlight over a 20 year period , attended and supported by hundreds of people .

Different groups exhibited there and the visitors enjoyed demonstrations and good home made baking ,teas & coffee all for free , all we asked for was a small donation for our fishery funds.

Sadly due to the NRW further catch restriction to our fishery (They rule taking a max. 5 salmon from the Severn estuary is a threat to stocks ) our fishing effort has reduced by 95% ,the group has hardly met ,Net house / visitor centre has not been opened...and all peripheral events built around the fishing have ceased , to continue would be like rubbing salt in a wound as we feel wronged .

We firmly believe clearance of the Severn estuary of traditional fishermen was an agenda . It certainly had no effect on salmon stocks as the issues affecting stock have been proven to be river issues.

So now the Black rock lave net fishery as all other estuary salmon fisheries will fade . Well done NRW fisheries division and all that support them .
