A tale of two UK rivers
Compare salmon stocks on the rivers Wye and Usk to the river Tyne............This is how it could be............but no ,we move from one disaster to another.
The river Tyne this year is full of salmon & sea trout . 11,845 fish counted upstream for the month of July !
Frequent water releases from the Kielder dam and a long standing salmon hatchery program are certainly helping matters here . The management and ideas here are bearing fruit .
The Usk ,Wye & Severn have been in decline for decades on lots of levels . Closure of "Industrial " salmon fisheries made no difference to stocks . Obviously the problems are on the rivers and the "management " of them .
