Restrictions to our fishery
Our salmon lave net fishery must be the most naturally restricted fishery there is ........added to that are the enforced restrictions
1. Average fishing time 1 1/2 hrs .
2.only able to fish the last off the ebb tide
3.lave netting only really effective on calm tides.
4. All done around our payed work
5. When the wind is in certain quarters you will not see a fish .
6. season reduced by 60 % (used to start feb .3rd )
7. The net is around 7ft wide ( estuary is close to 3 miles wide at this point )
8. A limit to our catch of 5 salmon per month for the eight fishermen
9 . Even thought the season is 3 months on paper we can only fish spring tides which occur every other week . In reality we cannot fish 99% of the year .
10. We cannot fish weekends....
111. All fish we bring up must be tagged
12. all fishing days / times /catches must be recorded in a log book before 12 mid night that day (or face prosecution ...)
13. we cannot sell our salmon
14. there is a limit to our numbers
