LIVING WITH RESTRICTIONS
Our lave net fishery at present operates under severe restrictions . Our base line , forged by the Welsh assembly goverment and the fishermen , agreed as sustainable by the Environment agency.
This we are assured will preserve the future of our fishery.
1/ Take no more than 15 salmon per season for the whole fishery.
2/ Take no more than 5 salmon per month for the whole fishery.
3/ A maximum of 8 fishermen.
4 / Not to sell our salmon.
Other restrictions and conditions are :
1/ Lave net season reduced by 60 % .Did start early Feb. now starts 1 st June
2 / No fishing after 6am Saturdays until 6am Monday.
3 / Record fishing effort in a log book (must be completed that day , if not done possible prosecution )
4 / Fit Number tag to any fish brought to shore, record this in the log book . As above if not done.
Natural restriction to this particular fishery:
1 / Only possible to fish for salmon for a maximum of 2 hrs prior to low water.
2 / Only possible to fish for salmon on spring tides (every other week )
3 / For lave netting to be effective the wind must be light.
4 / When the wind is in the north / east or east there is no fishing .
5 / All salmon fishing is over rock . Very fish friendly !
6 / Work dictates when we can fish.we all work full or part time.
7/ The severn estuary is appx. 3mile wide where we fish ,the net is appx. 7ft.....
8/ The tide runs where we fish for salmon at appx 6 knots and is deadly dangerous.
