Closure of the Severn traditional fisheries
New bylaws have just been passed which in effect end for good the remaining traditional salmon fisheries of the upper Severn estuary (E.A controlled) .
The 10 year ban on draft nets & Purchers will see that they never return .The remaining few lave netters will have to throw the salmon they catch back. Few if any licences have been taken out to do this, basically it is the end for them also.
Angling on the river Severn will now be catch & release and will be the biggest killer of salmon as regards to fishing for them .
Figures vary but in some circumstances around 20 % will die due to environmental ,playing , method & handling .
