Our fishermen have been invited to the assembly twice Meeting Rhodri Morgan & Carwyn Jones on the 1st occasion and on the second occasion met Elin jones ,minister for rural affairs at the time. The minister helped us win an agreement which protected salmon stock & also allowed our fishery to continue and thrive. The agreement was welcomed be the Environment agency director at the time.
Seems like a regular event now. Another pollution incident in west wales . A tributary's fish stock destroyed in one stroke. Any instalation with the potential to do this should be policed ,measures put in place (belt & braces ) to stop this . Grants , yes ,god knows enough money is wasted in other areas .......
Here are the dates for the new season . fishing normally lasts between 1 & 2 hours depending on the weather & tide . The Black rock picnic site (which gives panoramic views of the estuary fishing grounds is a great place to watch . Our net house on the site is open prior to the fishing and visitors are welcome . Our lave netting boat has now been refurbished with less than two weeks to go before the first fishable tides . There are endless jobs to do in preparation and we have been flat out . net repairs ,mooring repairs , event booking ,engine maintenance , net house maintenance ,advertising fishing dates , watching the estuary ,fishing dates advertising ,the list goes on but we are nearly there !
Once again our lave net fishermen has been asked to exhibit at St fagans . We are always very proud to do this . We first did this over 15 years ago . We will be there 15th and 16th of June . Come over and say hel lo !
As his Great grandfather did before him , martin preparing the boat we use to access the lave net fishing grounds prior to the new season . All areas can be fished on foot..The boat gives a little more fishing time and makes access easyer for the "older " fishermen !
Mudlarking whilst walking the low tide fishing grounds out of season is something we have done for years. Every now and then we find something of interest...... This bowl was found just beyond the S/w edge of our fishing area , mid channel . The general opinion is that it is post medievel...
