Over the years many fishing baskets have been found by our fishermen buried in the clay and silt ,exposed from time to time by the tides , carbon dated to 12th - 14th century . folk have fished here forever........
Fantastic sunny weather but the wind is brisk and will not shift from the North east. For our fishery this i a kiss of death ,we are highly unlikely to catch. Several fish seen so we know they are about . Things will change ,its just a waiting game !
With calm tides few & far between the fishing has been hard. Lots of early mornings with no joy. But at last Martin cowered a fine fish in "The Gut " as the wind swung around to a more favorable quarter. 12lb which won him the Bob Leonard cup for the first salmon of the season , this will also be a contender for the Doug Brown shield for the biggest fish.
Desperate measures , with strong winds & from the wrong direction a night trip was undertaken ( the only calm weather window of the week ) . Richard Harris & Martin took the boat over to "Gruggy " and fished by the light from the second severn crossing .
After all the pre season problems Bob passing , Stolen boat & trailer , The new NRW lease issues we are fishing again. The wentwood fly fishermens boat which they gifted to us will be used until we find a bigger one. Not to many salmon fishing tides until the middle of the month but at lest the weather is calm !
