LIVING WITH RESTRICTIONS

One of the reasons we fight so hard . sunrise in "The Hole "

Our lave net fishery at present operates under severe restrictions . Our base line , forged by the Welsh assembly goverment and the fishermen , agreed as sustainable by the Environment agency.

This we are assured will preserve the future of our fishery.

1/ Take no more than 15 salmon per season for the whole fishery.

2/ Take no more than 5 salmon per month for the whole fishery.

3/ A maximum of 8 fishermen.

4 / Not to sell our salmon.

Other restrictions and conditions are :

1/ Lave net season reduced by 60 % .Did start early Feb. now starts 1 st June

2 / No fishing after 6am Saturdays until 6am Monday.

3 / Record fishing effort in a log book (must be completed that day , if not done possible prosecution )

4 / Fit Number tag to any fish brought to shore, record this in the log book . As above if not done.

Natural restriction to this particular fishery:

1 / Only possible to fish for salmon for a maximum of 2 hrs prior to low water.

2 / Only possible to fish for salmon on spring tides (every other week )

3 / For lave netting to be effective the wind must be light.

4 / When the wind is in the north / east or east there is no fishing .

5 / All salmon fishing is over rock . Very fish friendly !

6 / Work dictates when we can fish.we all work full or part time.

7/ The severn estuary is appx. 3mile wide where we fish ,the net is appx. 7ft.....

8/ The tide runs where we fish for salmon at appx 6 knots and is deadly dangerous.
