The 2017 season ended on five salmon ,disappointing considering the numbers seen . Weather played a huge part this season. The end of season open day was a huge success . The fishery has been filmed for TV several times during the year, these will be shown at a later date. This was the last season of the welsh assembly/ EA lease which was a great success for all concerned . We have asked to renew as it stands with no additional restrictions . On-going ... Five salmon taken, quite disappointing considering the amount seen. weather played a big part for us this year. A few beers and sues curry to end the season. Natural resources Wales are now considering our future. Hope we have one .
A great day had by all. The mayor and his wife attended as did Peter Fox ,OBE a great supporter of the fishery for close to 20 years. Dorothy brown now in her 90s presented her husbands trophy to paul for the biggest salmon and Bob presented his to Paul for the 1st salmon taken. The girls worked hard serving tea and home made cakes .Thanks to them all ! What a fantastic community event this has become. Our future now is in the hands of NRW and perhaps the Welsh assembly ,God
Two fis hed the Gut and walked to Gruggy (mid channel ) and four fishing the Hole. Nice forecast for a change . Tide is huge and very dangerous this week .Saw a fish on the flood but no chance of getting to it...
Thought we would try our hands at being film extras ..... Amazing where our lave nets have taken us over the years. With out the fishing we would have lost all this too. Lave netting on the Severn estuary to precious to loose for many reasons.
Another TV film for BBC Wales this time. Border lives which is to be screened next year. Bob Leonard our chairman again the star , not bad for 86 . We are so proud of the fishing ,the estuary and Monmouthshire and this is always reflected in our efforts. Thanks Leanne and Ellis !
Its that time of year again and the 2017 end of season open day will be held at the Black Rock picnic site ,portskewett on sat. 26th Aug. 1pm - 5pm . An exhibition , demonstration and film of lave netting and presentation of the seasons trophy's and wooden spoons ! Also lave net training and guess what's in the box for the children . Home baked refreshments are also available and all are welcome
A disappointing week on the fishing front. A week long waited for wrecked by the weather ,rain rain and more rain . Boat bailed out several times then ground mooring chain parted (good job its on two ) A renewal job for the winter to add to the list. No further salmon caught , Still on five ,unbelievable considering the numbers seen but that's how it goes sometimes . Now a period of neaps with no fishing .Next fishing tide 21st August ..... These are huge springs ,fingers cr
Natural resources Wales have been approached by us and we have requested to renew our lease as it stands with no changes to its terms. We feel that the agreement has worked well for all concerned ,a great success. The agreement was forged by the welsh assembly government and the fishermen and agreed to be sustainable by the environment agency. The minister for rural affairs at the time welcomed the agreement as a means of protecting fish stock and allowing the traditional fis
